Approaching someone and letting them know they need help can be sometimes be a hard task. There are times when a person knows they need help, but they are still in denial. Other times, some people just need that extra vote of confidence in know that asking for help is the right thing to do. If you are a family member or friend of someone who needs help, it is important to know that you are one of the most important people in providing support and assisting them in getting the help that they need.

Tips When Asking for Help:
- Explain to the person your reason for concern in a caring manner while staying calm. It is best to write down your list of concerns because it can be easy to get side tracked or off topic.
- Be available to help support the person in need. Offer to take them for the assessment and ask if they would like you to be present during the assessment.
- That initial phone call for help may be difficult for the person in need. Offering to make the call together can sometimes ease the nerves of the person in need.
